Rhode Island bans cesspools for most types of real estate - Are you listing, selling, leasing, managing or investing in real estate with a cesspool? This is a reminder that Rhode Island law has prohibited the construction of new cesspools starting in1968 and requires existing cesspools in most types of real estate to be replaced with an on-site wastewater system or connect to sewer where available.  Make sure that you understand the impact of the Cesspool Phaseout Act of 2007 on your real estate transaction. 13% Private Home Rental Tax - Governor Raimondo's budget proposal would impose a 13% tax on short term rentals. The proposal would treat the owners of private homes and cottages like hotels by requiring them to collect a 7% sales tax and 6% hotel tax for each tenant who rents the property for 30 days or less. This proposed tax will create burdens for Rhode Island's residential property owners and barriers for tourists. Please ask the Governor and our legislators to oppose this tax. Read More
