Portsmouth is the northernmost town on Aquidneck Island and is bordered by Narragansett Bay on the west, The Mount Hope Bay on its northern tip and the Sakonnett River to the east.

Approximately 46 miles of shoreline have contributed to Portsmouth becoming a maritime complex. The East Passage Yachting Center maintains a 300-slip marina for boats up to 125 feet and has produced many of the Americas Cup Yachts.

Although there are new waterside housing developments, there has been a major effort in recent years to preserve Portsmouth’s remaining farmland, and therefore, it has maintained its unique rural charm and New England country character.

In addition to boating, Portsmouth has a well-respected Polo center, many equestrian sites and several golf courses.
