Getting Started

Entry into the real estate field depends on education, training, and interests. Most people begin as sales trainees in a brokerage firm. Other possibilities include office assistant, listing or rental agent, or as an assistant in large real estate organization, or the mortgage division of a bank or savings and loan.

It is important to select a real estate firm which offers additional training opportunities and is established in your community. Such an environment will enable you to learn from professionals and with good practical experience.

Many firms are eager to attract bright, career-oriented people. Through the Broker’s membership in its Local Board of REALTORS®, associates have opportunities to gain additional training and to exchange ideas with top professionals in the various specialties within real estate.

Advantages of Building a Career as a REALTOR® Agent or Broker:

Working in real estate allows for independence and choices of environment in which to work. If you choose a career in real estate, you could be affiliated with a large or small firm as a licensed sales person. With more experience and upon passing another exam, you could become a real estate broker. As a broker, you can own your own business and employ other sales people.

You have flexibility and freedom to set your own pace. Your time is your own, to use as productively as your ability and ambition allow. Your income directly reflects your efforts, with no limit on what astute, hard-working men and women can earn.
