Do you Support a 43% Increase in Real Estate Transfer Tax?
The current House budget does. As reported in the Providence Journal, the proposed budget that was voted out of the House Finance Committee on May 16 will increase the real estate transfer tax from $1.40 to $2.00 per $500, representing a 43% increase.
- RI has the 6th highest property tax burden in the US. Why single out homeowners who already pay their fair share in taxes?
- RI residents pay more in property taxes than they pay in any other single tax.
- Arent property taxes and housing costs high enough without this additional burden?
- Will this increase create an entry barrier for first time homebuyers?
Theres still time to stop this huge tax increase before the House votes on the budget next Thursday.
